A large dairy processor hired IFE to provide project management and process design services for the replacement of an existing bag palletizing system at the end of their dairy powder processing line. The available area for installation of new equipment was constrained on all sides by building infrastructure, forklift pathways, and warehouse racking but the new system was required to replace the existing one as well as add new features for increasing operations efficiency.

After developing block flow diagrams with a process mass balance to confirm the project scope, IFE created a project cost estimate to help the owner establish the project budget. Once the budget was formally approved for CapEx, IFE continued the engineering effort with procurement assistance and process design to create the project drawing set using the owner’s drafting standards.

IFE developed an RFP and managed the competitive bidding process to get multiple bids for the new palletizing system including installation services. After the contract was awarded, IFE provided continued support to manage the equipment vendor and schedule during manufacturing. The competitive bidding process resulted in the owner saving over 4x what IFE’s engineering budget for helping with the project.

This project is still underway and is scheduled to be installed and started up in November, 2023.
